The U.S. Embassy Announces the Hubert Humphrey Fellowship Program
Muscat -- The United States Embassy announces the opening of the application season for the Hubert Humphrey Fellowship Program. The Humphrey Fellowship is a one year exchange program that brings mid-level professionals to the U.S. for academic study and research. Any Omani citizen with a bachelor's degree, five years of professional experience, and a TOEFL score of 550 or above can apply for the program, which is fully funded by the U.S. Department of State. Interested applicants should apply online at http://client.wbai.com/hhh by September 1, 2008.
The Humphrey Fellowship Program is a non-degree program that provides mid-career professionals academic and professional experience directly related to their job responsibilities in Oman. Humphrey Fellows are hosted by a U.S. university for one year. During the year, Fellows participate in specially designed programs of study and training and conduct independent projects related to their coursework. Such projects can include consultations with U.S. faculty and off-campus experts, field trips, and special seminars. All expenses for the program, including airfare and accommodations, are funded by the U.S. Department of State.
"The goal of the Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program is to foster an exchange of knowledge and mutual understanding between our countries," explained Alfred Fonteneau, Chargé d'Affaires ad interim at the U.S. Embassy. "Several Omanis have participated in the past, bringing their knowledge and enthusiasm to the U.S., and returning to Oman with a better understanding of America." The program provides a basis for lasting ties between citizens of the United States and their professional counterparts in Oman. It honors the memory of the late American Senator and former Vice President, Hubert H. Humphrey, and is administered by the Institute of International Education (IIE).
To be eligible, applicants must have Omani citizenship and a bachelor's degree. Additionally, applicants should have five years of substantial professional experience, and a TOEFL score of 550 points (paper-based), 213 points (computer-based) or 79-80 (internet-based). Interested participants must apply online by September 1, 2008 at the following internet site: http://client.wbai.com/hhh.
